PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION

MINORITY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE OFFICIAL KICKS OFF FIRST TRADE MISSION  TO COSTA RICA!

“Goal of this project is to Strengthen Economic Relations between Costa Rica and U.S minority Companies, and make a Call to people of Costa Rica to realize the importance of  the Free Trade Agreement with U.S”

Miami, Florida. October 18, 2008. The Minority Chamber of Commerce kicked off the first U.S. trade mission to Costa Rica, December 1 & 2, 2008,  the mission’s goals include increasing export opportunities for U.S Minority companies, investors recruitment and advocacy on behalf of Minority Chamber of Commerce’s international programs. Twenty U.S. Minority companies will have a chance to explore new opportunities in Costa Rica, and will gain firsthand market experience through meetings with key government officials and potential business partners.

The objective of the mission is to assist infrequent U.S Minority exporters & importers in establishing representatives in Costa Rica. This is because many of these firms do not have the resources or experience to go into the international market place and locate a representative without assistance, now is combines the efforts in overseas posts-satellite offices  from the Minority Chamber in introducing U.S. firms to prospective agents, distributors, licensees and joint venture partners in a variety of products and services.

“Costa Rica’s economic growth rate rose by 6.8 percent and their commercial development is diversified with tourism/hospitality services, information technology, and medical equipment/instrumentation taking prominent roles. As Costa Rica moves towards a free trade agreement with U.S , the country presents good opportunities for U.S. investors and exporters in a number of sectors, including educational services, food industry, medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, construction, high tech, equipment and machinery,”  Doug Mayorga, National Director for Minority Chamber of Commerce, said, “this avenue will help participating firms obtain market information, make business and government contacts, explore potential business prospects and solidify business strategies, advantage of opportunities in the Costa Rica marketplace for U.S Minority Small Business”, Said Mr. Mayorga.

A trade agreement is reach between the United States and Costa Rica soon and will greatly expand export opportunities for U.S. manufacturers and service providers. Under terms of the U.S.-Costa Rica Trade Promotion Agreement, 80 percent of U.S. exports of consumer and industrial goods to Costa Rica will enter duty-free, with remaining tariffs to be phased out within 10 years. More than two-thirds of current U.S. farm exports will be duty free immediately upon the trade deal’s implementation.

A similar trade agreement reached with Colombia, but awaiting Congressional ratification, calls for the immediate elimination of tariffs on more than 80 percent of U.S. exports including beef, wheat, soybeans and other commodities, the Minority Chamber of Commerce, is defending in all level the implementation of this Free Trade Agreement is extremely necesary to open opportunities for U.S Minority Companies.

About the Minority Chamber of Commerce: Our international trade program, initiated four years ago, has developed into a full time, ongoing program with its own Director and Founder  of International Trade, Doug Mayorga who is responsible for an international trade assistance program promoting U.S Minority's products and services to Central-South American and the Caribbean.
